Alfred Hornby Roughsedge (1821-1852) was a mineral water manufacturer who worked for his father’s Bristol-based mineral water company Roughsedge & Summers.
Roughsedge was born in Marylebone, London, on the 27th of August 1821. His father, William Roughsedge, worked as an for agent for J. Schweppe & Co. By 1831, the Roughsedge family had moved to Bridge Street, Bristol, and after a few years of working as J. Schewepe & Co.’s Bristol agent, Roughsedge senior established his own company in partnership with William Summers.
Roughsedge appears to have lived and worked at his family’s Bridge Street mineral water factory for most, if not all of his life, which suggests that he was probably employed in the family business. He died at the age of 31 in 1851.
